When I started playing with boiled glass I found it gave opening the kiln up after a firing a whole new thrill! The glass boils at 1800 degrees for approximately 5 minutes. I begin with my palette of colors I hope to have in the finished piece, from that point on I have no control of how the glass will look. After the glass has boiled it takes on a personality all its own, never to be replicated. Next I saw, grind and finish the piece for its future shape. With two more firings to smooth and shape it becomes the functional art glass I am currently obsessed with.
